Who we are
Hushmand Associates, Incorporated (HAI) was founded in 1990 by Dr. Ben Hushmand, P.E., and established as a State of California Corporation on August 19, 1999. HAI is a geotechnical, environmental, earthquake, materials testing and specialty inspection engineering firm with more than 20 years of successful project experience and a team of engineers, geologists and field and laboratory specialty technicians with unparalleled capabilities and experience in design and construction of major government and public works projects, transportation, industrial buildings, water resources, infrastructure, utilities, oil terminal and refinery facilities, municipal and hazardous solid waste landfills, and commercial and residential developments involving conventional and specialty geotechnical and earthquake engineering.
HAI's professionals possess Registered Civil and Geotechnical Engineering Licenses and have successfully completed the 40-hour training requirements of Federal OSHA Regulations 29 CFR 1910.120 (e)(2)/8 CCR 5192 pertaining to OSHA environmental site investigations. Further augmenting our staff of professionals is our in-house soil mechanics laboratory. The laboratory is staffed with highly qualified certified technicians overseen by geotechnical engineers with over 20 years experience in soil interpretation and development of geotechnical design parameters.
Our capabilities and experience cover the full range of geotechnical engineering aspects of geologic investigations, foundation design, retaining structures, slope stability, seismic design and site-specific evaluations of seismically-induced geologic hazards, including ground shaking, ground rupture potential, slope instability and landsliding, pore water pressure buildup and liquefaction potential, as well as related ground settlement, lateral spreading, and bearing capacity failure and mitigation measures. Both deterministic and probabilistic seismic hazard evaluations are routinely performed to provide our clients with the required information for making risk management decisions in compliance with applicable regulations and regulatory agencies. HAI's capability in providing specialty geotechnical instrumentation, vibration monitoring, and dynamic testing services for new construction projects or retrofit of existing structures are unique in the industry. HAI's materials testing experience covers a wide threshold from soil and concrete testing to vibration monitoring.
